The Competitive Teardown

You're spending
$1,699/mo
on five dashboards
that don't talk to each other.

Klaviyo for email ($45-500/mo). Triple Whale for analytics ($100-400/mo).
Gorgias for chat ($29-300/mo). Shogun for pages ($39-499/mo). Recharge for subscriptions ($99-499/mo).
Five logins. Five invoices. Five admin panels. Five data silos. Zero shared intelligence.

What You're Losing

Five tools. Five problems. Zero brain.

$19,800/year

The Money

Five separate subscriptions. Five billing cycles. Five annual renewal negotiations. Five price increases you accept because switching costs feel higher than staying. The mid-tier stack runs $1,650/month. That's a full-time junior hire you're spending on dashboards.

Intelligence

The Silos

Klaviyo doesn't know what Gorgias discussed. Triple Whale doesn't know what Klaviyo sent. Shogun doesn't know what Triple Whale measured. Each tool has its own data, its own customer profile, its own version of the truth. You are the integration layer. You are the brain.

365 hours/year

The Time Tax

Five logins every morning. Five admin panels with different UX conventions. Five notification streams competing for your attention. Five places to check when something goes wrong. Five sets of documentation when you need to train someone new. Five update changelogs to read. The context-switching alone costs you an hour a day. That's 365 hours a year -- nine full work weeks -- spent being a human router between tools that should talk to each other.

Customers

The Gaps Between Tools

A customer chats at 2am about a product they've been researching for weeks. Gorgias logs a ticket. Nobody follows up with a tailored email. Nobody scores the lead based on their browsing history. Nobody triggers a drip sequence. Nobody alerts you in the morning briefing. The customer buys from a competitor who responded at 2:01am. Your five tools watched it happen from five different dashboards.

The Itemized Bill

What you're paying. Line by line.

Every tool. Its function. Its price. Added up. Then compared to one number.

Klaviyo Email marketing, SMS, segmentation, flows $45 - $500/mo
Triple Whale Attribution, analytics, cohorts, CLV $100 - $400/mo
Gorgias Chat widget, helpdesk, ticket management $29 - $300/mo
Shogun Page builder, landing pages, A/B testing $39 - $499/mo
Recharge Subscription billing, recurring orders, dunning $99 - $499/mo

$312 - $2,198/mo

Or.

$49

/month. One platform. One brain. Everything included.

$559

Saved per month

At mid-tier pricing for all five tools vs. Cartridge Brain at $49.

$6,708

Saved per year

Enough to fund your entire marketing budget for a quarter.

$20,124

Saved over 3 years

Plus: a brain that gets smarter every month. Your SaaS stack doesn't learn.

Based on mid-tier pricing: Klaviyo $250 + Triple Whale $200 + Gorgias $60 + Shogun $99 + Recharge $99 = $708/mo. Cartridge Autopilot (with subscriptions): $149/mo.

The Peak Moment

Same morning. Two realities.

Your morning with 5 tools

7:00am Open laptop. Open Shopify admin. Wait for the dashboard to load. Check overnight orders. 4 new orders. Write down the total on a sticky note. Try to remember if that's good for a Tuesday.
7:06am Open Triple Whale in a new tab. Log in. Wait for the dashboard to load. It takes 8 seconds. Check attribution. Try to figure out which channel drove last night's orders. The numbers don't match Shopify's. They never do. Spend 3 minutes trying to reconcile the discrepancy. Give up.
7:15am Open Klaviyo in tab three. Check email performance. The abandoned cart flow sent 12 emails overnight. 2 recovered. Open each recovered order to see the dollar amounts. Add them to the sticky note. Notice your welcome series has a 12% open rate on step 3. Make a mental note to rewrite it. You've been making that mental note for six weeks.
7:24am Open Gorgias in tab four. 7 new tickets. 3 are "where's my order" -- look up each tracking number in Shopify (tab one, scroll down, click, copy, paste back into Gorgias). 2 are product questions the chat bot couldn't handle. 1 is a return request. 1 is spam. Start responding to the product questions. The first one asks about a Ferrari rug you carry. You think you answered this same question last week but can't find the old transcript.
7:42am Remember you need to check that landing page you've been testing. Open Shogun in tab five. The A/B test from last week finished. Variant B won with 18% more clicks. Click through 4 screens to promote it. Wonder if it actually affected revenue. Switch to Triple Whale (tab two). Try to filter by landing page. The data doesn't slice that way. Switch to Shopify (tab one). Look at the conversion funnel. It doesn't separate by landing page variant either. Give up. Promote Variant B anyway.
7:56am Open Recharge in tab six. 2 subscription renewals failed overnight. Open each customer profile. One has an expired card. The other has insufficient funds. Copy the first customer's email. Open Gmail (tab seven). Draft a manual dunning email because Recharge's built-in dunning email looks terrible and Klaviyo doesn't know about subscription status. Send it. Repeat for customer two.
8:10am Remember the customer who asked about the Ferrari rug in Gorgias. You want to follow up with a personalized email. Switch to Gorgias (tab four). Find the transcript. Copy the product name and customer email. Switch to Klaviyo (tab three). Create a manual segment of one person. Open the email editor. Write a follow-up referencing the Ferrari rug. Preview it. Realize the product image didn't load. Fix it. Send. Close 3 of your 11 open tabs.
8:22am Check your phone. A partner called yesterday asking about their embed performance. You don't have partner analytics in any of your five tools. Open a spreadsheet you started tracking this manually. It's two weeks out of date. Decide to update it later.
8:30am Realize you still haven't made coffee. Your sticky note has 6 numbers on it. None of them agree with each other. You have 11 browser tabs open across 7 different tools. You have a vague sense that yesterday was "pretty good" but couldn't explain exactly why to anyone who asked. You are the integration layer. You are the brain. And the brain is tired.

Your morning with Cartridge

7:00am Open inbox. Read your morning briefing.
Good morning. Yesterday: 6 orders, $3,847 revenue. The AI concierge had 31 conversations and captured 9 leads (3 scored above 20). Your abandoned cart sequence recovered $412 across 3 carts. The Ferrari collection page is up 40% in views this week -- consider featuring it in Thursday's email. One subscription renewal failed; a recovery email was sent automatically at 3am. Your partner embed at MotorTrend generated 847 impressions and 2 orders ($289). Top search term: "garage cabinet." One thing to look at: the Porsche neon sign has 94 views and 0 conversions this week. Might be pricing.
7:05am Go make coffee.

1 hour and 30 minutes vs. 5 minutes. Every single morning.

That's the experience gap. But you didn't come to this page for anecdotes. You came for specifics. Tool by tool. Feature by feature. Let's go through every competitor, honestly, and show you exactly what each one does and doesn't do.

Competitor by Competitor

The honest breakdown.

What they do well. What they can't do. What Cartridge replaces. No spin.

Klaviyo

$45 - $500/mo (email + SMS only)

What they do well: Best-in-class visual email editor with drag-and-drop blocks, 350+ native integrations, advanced segmentation engine, predictive analytics on their Enterprise tier, 100+ pre-built automation flows, strong deliverability reputation.

  • Doesn't know what your AI concierge discussed with a customer last Tuesday -- can't reference chat context in emails without custom Zapier/webhook plumbing
  • Can't score leads based on real-time browsing behavior across your storefront -- it only sees email engagement and whatever you manually sync
  • Can't send you a morning briefing that connects email recovery to chat conversations, partner embed performance, and subscription renewals
  • No storefront. No analytics dashboard. No page builder. No subscriptions. No AI chat. Just email and SMS in a silo.

Cartridge includes: visual email builder, 5 email sequences, SMS/WhatsApp via Twilio, subject line A/B testing, behavioral triggers from browsing + chat + purchase data, a brain that connects email to every other module, plus Slack/Teams/Discord briefings delivered to your channels. 427 source files. 565 tests. $49/mo.

Triple Whale

$100 - $400/mo (analytics only)

What they do well: Beautiful attribution dashboards with the Triple Pixel, multi-touch attribution models, cohort analysis, CLV predictions, creative performance tracking, and a clean UI that makes analytics feel less painful.

  • Never says "your Ferrari sign gets views but doesn't convert -- might be pricing" in plain English. Shows you the chart. You figure it out.
  • Never connects attribution data to your email sequences, AI conversations, or partner embed performance
  • Passive: shows you data and waits for you to act. Never triggers an email, scores a lead, or adjusts a strategy autonomously.
  • No storefront. No email. No AI chat. No CRM. No subscriptions. No page builder. Just dashboards you stare at.

Cartridge includes: configurable analytics dashboard (18 data sources, 10 chart types, 26 widget templates), 4 attribution models, RFM scoring, cohort analysis, funnel analysis, revenue attribution by source, natural language insights, and 46 autonomous actions that act on data instead of just displaying it. 565 tests passing. $49/mo.

Gorgias

$29 - $300/mo (chat + support)

What they do well: Purpose-built helpdesk with order lookup macros, multi-channel unified inbox (email, chat, social, SMS), ticket prioritization and routing, strong Shopify sidebar integration, and a mature agent management system.

  • No Claude-powered concierge that knows your entire product catalog, captures leads mid-conversation, and creates quote requests with vehicle details
  • Can't trigger email sequences based on what a customer discussed in chat -- chat and email live in different worlds
  • Can't score leads from conversations or route high-value prospects to your CRM automatically
  • Reactive only: waits for customers to initiate. No proactive engagement based on browsing behavior, time on page, or return visit detection.

Cartridge includes: AI concierge (Claude Sonnet 4), AI conversation designer with visual flow editor, 5 chat tools (search, quote request, email capture, order lookup, discount creation), conversation memory with 90-day TTL, customer context injection, proactive engagement triggers, and lead scoring from chat interactions. $49/mo.

Shogun

$39 - $499/mo (page builder only)

What they do well: Polished visual drag-and-drop editor with a component marketplace, solid A/B testing built into the editor on their higher tiers, personalization rules on their Advanced ($499/mo) tier, and reasonable Shopify integration.

  • Doesn't include a storefront -- it builds landing pages inside your existing theme, not a headless frontend
  • No AI concierge. No email sequences. No CRM integration. No analytics beyond page-level metrics. No partner embeds. No morning briefings.
  • $499/month for the Advanced tier that includes A/B testing and personalization -- features Cartridge includes at $49/month
  • One tool in a stack of six. You still need Klaviyo, Triple Whale, Gorgias, Recharge, and your theme. Shogun replaces nothing.

Cartridge includes: advanced page builder with undo/redo, responsive preview (desktop/tablet/mobile), version history, rich text editor, 12 section types, content scheduling, audience personalization, and 15+ theme design tokens. Plus the full platform behind it: workflow builder, CRM Kanban, AI conversation designer, analytics dashboard, and more. $49/mo.

Recharge

$99 - $499/mo (subscriptions only)

What they do well: Subscription billing purpose-built for Shopify, customer self-service portal, dunning management with retry logic, swap/skip/pause flexibility, and solid integration with Shopify's checkout flow. If you run a consumables subscription business, they're established.

  • Dunning emails live in their own silo -- they don't integrate with your email sequences in Klaviyo or anywhere else
  • No connection to your AI concierge, lead scoring, browsing behavior, or attribution data. Subscription status is invisible to every other tool.
  • $499/month for their Pro tier. For a single feature: recurring billing. That's more than Cartridge Autopilot which includes subscriptions plus every other module.
  • No storefront. No AI chat. No analytics dashboard. No page builder. No CRM. Just billing middleware sitting between Shopify and Stripe.

Cartridge includes: Stripe Billing integration, subscribe-and-save widgets on product pages, subscription management portal, renewal reminders, churn prediction, automated recovery emails connected to the full email system, all connected to the brain. $149/mo (Autopilot tier).

Shopify Hydrogen

Free (but requires an engineering team)

What they do well: Official Shopify headless framework with React Server Components, full Storefront API access, Oxygen hosting on Cloudflare Workers, strong TypeScript support, active development from Shopify's core team, and a growing ecosystem.

  • A framework, not a product. You get a build tool and an API. Everything else -- admin dashboard, AI, email, CRM, analytics, partner system -- you build yourself or you don't have it.
  • No admin dashboard (0 pages vs. Cartridge's 19). No AI concierge. No email sequences. No CRM integration. No partner embed system. No autonomous actions. No workflow builder. No CRM Kanban. No embeddable widget. No API docs.
  • No catalog intelligence. No morning briefings. No lead scoring. No A/B testing. No revenue attribution. No subscription management without additional tools.
  • Requires Shopify Plus ($2,300/mo) for full Storefront API access. Estimated build cost for equivalent features: $80,000-$150,000 in engineering time. "Free" is the most expensive option on this page.

Cartridge includes: complete headless storefront + visual workflow builder + CRM Kanban + AI conversation designer + configurable analytics + product configurator + SEO command center + embeddable widget + multi-store dashboard + Slack/Teams integration + interactive API docs + 46 autonomous actions + 19 admin pages + email builder + partner portal + developer API. 427 files. 565 tests. 67 API routes. One config file, deploy in minutes. $49/mo.

Cartridge scores a full "Yes" on all 67 features. The next closest competitor scores 12. That gap isn't marketing. It's the difference between a platform built as one system and five products stitched together with API calls and hope. But features are just rows in a table. The real difference is what happens between those rows.

What No Competitor Has

The brain is the product.

You can bolt six tools together and get features. You cannot bolt them together and get intelligence. Here's what the brain does that a stack of SaaS tools never will.

1

Email knows what the AI discussed.

In a 5-tool stack: You'd need a Zapier flow, a custom Klaviyo property, a webhook from Gorgias, and manual Liquid template logic. Most merchants never set this up.

In Cartridge: When a customer chats about Ferrari rugs at 11pm, the follow-up email at 9am references Ferrari rugs. Automatically. The brain shared the context between modules before you woke up.

2

Lead scoring knows browsing history.

In a 5-tool stack: Browsing data lives in Google Analytics or Triple Whale. CRM data lives in HubSpot. Nobody connects page views to lead scores. A customer who browsed $40,000 in products is treated the same as one who bounced.

In Cartridge: A customer who viewed three high-end display pads ($12,500 each) gets a score of 24 and instant VIP routing in HubSpot. The brain saw the browsing, calculated the intent, updated the score, and notified your CRM. While you slept.

3

The morning briefing knows what actions did overnight.

In a 5-tool stack: You check Shopify for orders, Triple Whale for attribution, Klaviyo for email recovery, Gorgias for tickets, and Recharge for subscriptions. Five dashboards. Five partial pictures. You reconstruct yesterday in your head.

In Cartridge: The brain writes you one paragraph. Orders, revenue, leads captured, carts recovered, partner embed performance, subscription status, and one recommendation for today. Delivered to your inbox before your alarm goes off.

4

The A/B tester knows which chat variant drove revenue.

In a 5-tool stack: You A/B test email subject lines in Klaviyo. Separately. Page layouts in Shogun. Separately. Chat responses in Gorgias. Never. None of these tests know about each other's results.

In Cartridge: The brain tests which entire conversation approach converts better -- not just opens, but actual revenue attribution -- with statistical significance (two-proportion z-test, p<0.05). Winners are surfaced for one-click promotion.

5

The partner system knows which embed drove which sale.

In a 5-tool stack: You have no way to trace a sale back to a specific partner widget on a specific external site. Partner performance tracking lives in a spreadsheet you update manually. Or doesn't exist at all.

In Cartridge: Every embed load, click, and order is attributed to a specific partner. Commission calculated automatically. Performance ranked. Inactive partners flagged. Revenue reports generated. The brain treats your partner network as a first-class channel.

6

The brain improves itself.

In a 5-tool stack: Nothing learns from anything else. Klaviyo doesn't get better at email because Gorgias had a good chat. Triple Whale doesn't adjust attribution because Shogun changed a page. Each tool is frozen in its own lane.

In Cartridge: The A/B testing engine tests system prompts, email subject lines, chat strategies, and page layouts continuously. When it finds a winner with statistical significance, it promotes the variant and starts a new test. The brain compounds its own improvements. Every week it is slightly smarter than the week before.

This is the part you cannot buy by adding a sixth tool to your stack. No amount of Zapier flows, webhook relays, or middleware can replicate a system that was designed from the first line of code to share context between every module. The brain isn't a feature. It's the architecture. And it's why Cartridge is worth more than five tools combined while costing less than any single one.

Frequently Asked

Honest answers.

Is Cartridge really comparable to Klaviyo?

For email volume and template variety, Klaviyo has more. They have 100+ pre-built flows, 350+ integrations, and years of deliverability optimization. Their visual editor is best-in-class. If you send 500,000 emails a month and need enterprise-grade email infrastructure with dedicated IP warming and advanced deliverability tools, Klaviyo is a serious tool.

But Cartridge doesn't compete on email volume. It competes on intelligence. Your email sequences know what the AI concierge discussed with each customer, what products they browsed on your storefront, what their lead score is, what actions ran overnight, and what their subscription status looks like. Klaviyo's emails only know what Klaviyo knows -- which is just email engagement and whatever you pipe in through integrations.

For most merchants doing under 50,000 emails per month, Cartridge's contextually intelligent email is more effective than Klaviyo's isolated email. A follow-up that references what someone chatted about last week converts better than a generic segment drip, regardless of how pretty the template is.

What about migration? I have years of data in Klaviyo.

We provide migration tooling for contact lists, segments, and email templates. Your Klaviyo segments can be recreated using Cartridge's behavioral targeting, which has the advantage of incorporating browsing, chat, and purchase data -- signals that Klaviyo never had access to.

Historical email performance data stays in Klaviyo. We recommend keeping your Klaviyo account active in read-only mode for 90 days while Cartridge builds its own customer profiles from live data. This gives you a clean break without losing historical reference data.

For Enterprise tier customers, we handle the full migration as part of onboarding, including template recreation, segment mapping, and parallel sends to validate deliverability before cutover.

Hydrogen is free. Why would I pay $49?

Hydrogen is a framework. It gives you React Server Components and the Storefront API. Everything else -- admin dashboard, AI concierge, email sequences, CRM integration, partner embeds, catalog intelligence, autonomous actions, analytics, lead scoring, morning briefings, subscription billing, invoice generation, A/B testing, security hardening -- you build yourself. Or you don't have it.

A conservative estimate for building what Cartridge includes out of the box: 6-8 months of full-time engineering, or $80,000-$150,000 in contractor costs. And that's just to build it once. Maintenance, bug fixes, security patches, and feature additions are ongoing. Cartridge ships all of that as a product with continuous updates.

Additionally, Hydrogen requires Shopify Plus ($2,300/mo) for full Storefront API access. Cartridge uses Shopify's public product JSON -- no API tokens, no Plus requirement, no OAuth. "Free" is the most expensive option on this page.

Can the AI concierge really replace Gorgias?

For ticket volume, routing complexity, and multi-agent support desks, Gorgias is purpose-built and mature. If you have a 10-person support team processing 500 tickets a day across email, chat, social, and phone, Gorgias is the right tool for that job. We're honest about that.

For most Shopify merchants -- especially those doing under 100 support interactions a day -- the AI concierge handles the majority of customer interactions: product questions, order lookups, quote requests, discount negotiations, and lead capture. It works 24/7, remembers every conversation for 90 days, scores leads automatically, and triggers email sequences based on chat context.

The key difference: Gorgias waits for customers to ask for help. Cartridge's concierge proactively engages based on browsing behavior, time on page, and return visit detection. It converts browsers into leads before they ever think to open a support ticket.

What if I only need one of these tools?

If you genuinely only need email marketing and nothing else, Klaviyo at $45/month is a fine choice. If you only need analytics dashboards, Triple Whale at $100/month works. Single-purpose tools are appropriate for single-purpose needs. We won't pretend otherwise.

But most merchants don't need one tool. They need five, and they're paying for five, and none of those five share data with each other. The moment you need email AND chat AND analytics AND a storefront AND subscriptions, the math changes fundamentally. Cartridge's value isn't in replacing any single tool -- it's in replacing the gaps between them. The gaps are where customers fall through. The gaps are where intelligence dies.

Even if you only use three of the five categories, Cartridge at $49/month is likely cheaper than three standalone tools, and those three modules will share data in ways that three separate SaaS products never will.

Is this actually in production?

Yes. 427 source files. 565 tests passing across 35 test files -- zero failures, zero skipped. 46 autonomous actions running on cron schedules. 67 API routes with rate limiting, authentication, and HMAC-signed webhooks. 19 admin pages with real data, real charts, and real management interfaces. Visual workflow builder, CRM Kanban pipeline, AI conversation designer, configurable analytics dashboard, product configurator, SEO command center, embeddable chat widget, agency multi-store dashboard, Slack/Teams/Discord integration, interactive API documentation -- all built, all tested, all shipping.

The codebase is real, tested, and deployed. This isn't a landing page for a product that doesn't exist yet. The first production deployment powers a specialty automotive accessories store with live AI concierge, HubSpot CRM integration, partner embed distribution, email sequences, and the full analytics dashboard.

You can see every feature documented on the features page, including exact implementation details, test coverage, and architecture decisions. We show our work because we can.
